“Your product is being reviewed for Shopify Catalog eligibility. This can take a few days.” means Shopify is checking whether that product can go into Shopify Catalog, the product feed Shopify shares with ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot and other AI shopping assistants. It isn’t an error, and you don’t need to submit anything.
What you can do is make sure the product will pass. Shopify publishes a short list of rules a product has to meet, and you can check them all in about ten minutes.
Where the message shows up
A merchant on Shopify Community posted a screenshot of it. It sits in a product’s Manage publishing panel, in the Agentic section, on the Shopify Catalog row, with the status Pending.
The same panel can show other sections too. In that merchant’s screenshot, a Managed Markets section said “Unsupported regions 188” right next to the pending review. Those are two separate things. The catalog review is about AI shopping assistants. The Managed Markets warning is about which countries can buy the product. Replies in the thread said that warning, not the catalog review, was why the merchant’s products couldn’t sell abroad.
What Shopify is checking
Shopify doesn’t publish what this product review looks at. But it does publish the requirements a product has to meet to be in Shopify Catalog, and it says products that meet them are included automatically, with “no additional action” from you. So those requirements are the best guide to what’s being checked.
They come in two layers.
The store has to qualify. It must be on the Starter plan or higher and not password-protected, with one exception: a store on the Agentic plan can still be included through agentic storefronts, even if it hasn’t published its online store on a paid plan. The account also has to be in good standing, which Shopify says is “reviewed over time”.
Then each product has to qualify. It needs:
- a title and at least one image;
- a price above zero (free products aren’t included);
- to be published to your online store, Hydrogen or Headless;
- a working product URL;
- not to be Unlisted, or hidden from search engines;
- no sensitive content, like mature content, in its images or description;
- to land in a category Shopify allows.
That last rule has a twist worth knowing. Shopify decides the category itself, from your product information, and it can differ from the category you picked in the admin. If your title and description don’t make it clear what the product is, it can end up classified as Uncategorized, which is one of the excluded categories.
What to do while you wait
Run through this once for the product that’s pending. If several products are pending, check one first; problems tend to repeat.
For the store (check once):
- In Sales channels > Agentic, next to Sources > Shopify Catalog, you see a product count, not an Ineligible warning. If it says Ineligible, click it for the reason. No product review can get around a store-level problem.
- The store is on Starter or higher, or on the Agentic plan, and isn’t password-protected.
- Your account is verified: email confirmed, two-step authentication on, and identity and business verification done if Shopify has asked for it.
For the product:
- It has a title and at least one image.
- Every variant you want found has a price above zero.
- It’s published to your Online Store (or Hydrogen or Headless).
- Its status isn’t Unlisted, and no SEO app has hidden it from search engines.
- Nothing in the images or description could read as mature or sensitive content.
- The title and first lines of the description say plainly what the product is. “Cloud 2.0 in Midnight” doesn’t tell anyone it’s a weighted blanket; “Weighted blanket, 15 lb, queen” does.
- It isn’t in a category Shopify excludes, such as alcohol, vaping, CBD, weapons, services and add-ons, event tickets or live animals.
If everything passes, there’s nothing more to do but wait. Shopify gives no exact timeline beyond the “few days” in the message itself. One merchant on Shopify Community reported a product pending for about four days.
Still pending, or never got in?
Here’s what to do, depending on what you see.
| What you see | What it probably means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Ineligible next to Shopify Catalog in Sales channels > Agentic | The whole store is out, so no product can get in | Click it for the reason. Our requirements guide has a checklist for the store-level rules |
| “Catalog eligibility details are temporarily unavailable” | Shopify can’t show the status right now | Shopify says check back later, and contact Support if it persists |
| The product is free, a $0 sample or a gift with purchase | Free products aren’t included | Nothing to fix; it’s by design |
| The product sells something on Shopify’s excluded list | It won’t be included | Nothing to fix; it’s by design |
| The title and description are vague about what the product is | It may be classified as Uncategorized | Rewrite the title and opening lines to name the product type plainly |
| The product is Unlisted or hidden from search engines | It fails a published rule | Change the status, or turn off the SEO setting that hides it |
| Every check above passes, and it’s been pending more than a week | Something Shopify isn’t showing you | Contact Shopify Support from your admin. Give the product name and the date you first saw Pending |
If a new store keeps failing at the store level, the fix is often time. Shopify says standing improves with “a track record of genuine sales to real customers”, prompt fulfilment and a low chargeback rate. It publishes no order count or number of days, so be wary of anyone who claims to know one.
While a product is out of the catalog
A pending or excluded product isn’t invisible everywhere. Shopify notes that AI channels can still find products through ordinary web crawling, the way a search engine does. So a clear, public product page still matters while you wait.
What you lose is the direct route. ChatGPT and Copilot get products through Shopify Catalog, and Copilot’s in-chat checkout needs the product to be in it. Our Copilot guide and Shopify and ChatGPT guide explain what each one needs on top.
After it clears
Getting in is step one, not the finish line. Shopify says being in the catalog doesn’t guarantee a product will show up in any particular AI answer.
Two quick checks once the Pending label goes away:
- The count went up. The product count next to Shopify Catalog in Sales channels > Agentic should include it.
- It shows in the search preview. In the same section, search for the product the way a shopper would. Our guide to the Agentic tab shows how to read what comes back.
If it’s in the catalog but never shows up for the questions your customers ask, that’s a different problem. It’s about whether your product information answers those questions, and our guide to products not showing in ChatGPT is the place to start.
Your next step
Open the pending product today and run the product checklist above. Then open Sales channels > Agentic and write down what it says next to Shopify Catalog, with today’s date. If the product still says Pending a week from now and every box is ticked, contact Shopify Support with that note in hand.
